Tozawa's initial lack of growth and failure in his trial can be attributed to Don Fujii's bullying.
The Tozawa 10 Match Trial Series is a ten-match trial series Akira Tozawa undertook in Dragon Gate from June 2005 through July 2005.
Overview[]
Akira Tozawa was the third Dragon Gate trueborn. However, he was not showing much progress two months in his career. This was in contrast to Shingo Takagi and BxB Hulk, who were already beginning to live up to their potential. It did not help that Don Fujii was unrelenting in his bullying of the "dojo boy." Tozawa's primary sensei Masaaki Mochizuki and Keni'chiro Arai decided to give him a trial series as a means of assessing his development.
Unfortunately, Tozawa failed rather miserably. Seeing that he was not quite ready to compete on the main stage just yet, he was sent back to the dojo for more training. He would return in October, alongside the debuting Yuki Ono. In many ways, this trail series did not do too much to pushing Tozawa in the right direction. Rather, it only held him back further. It would be years before he finally had the breakthrough needed to reach the same level of growth Shingo, Hulk, and later YAMATO would achieve.
